With any decision you are pondering in life, there are usually no fewer than a dozen reasons why you probably shouldn't go through with it. Your brain can compile a list of "Don'ts" faster than a toddler can dump a bowl of Cheerios. And you tend to believe it. We were taught to listen to reason and logic and to think our way out of sticky situations. It's much scarier to jump than to stand on the edge of the cliff. The unknown can be a wide abyss filled with chasms of anxiety and mountains of self-doubt.
This podcast was no different. We had a long list of reasons on the "No" side of the T-chart: We are busy, we work together, we have way too many other commitments, we don't have time for yet another project, and, (most frightening of all) - it could fail.
Yet, despite the sensibility supporting each of those bulleted points, there remained one line on the other side of the chart that tipped the scales in favor of tempting fate: We wanted to.
There is such power in that statement: Because I want to. It's a conversation ender. It's declarative and full of conviction and stubbornness, the exact ingredients required for an ambitious project. It evokes a mental image of a woman standing with her feet shoulder-with apart, arms crossed, with a look on her face that can best be described as a mixture between determination and "try me."
So we dared. We took a chance and we started a podcast that is devoted to the celebration of other women who dare to take chances. And we continue to put ourselves out there, week after week, in an attempt to build a tribe of women who straighten each other's crowns and encourage each other to tempt fate. Because our goal is larger than simply hosting a successful podcast. Our mission is to share the stories of Hustlers with a wider audience of ladies who are genuinely happy about others' successes and maybe looking for a little motivation to jump into the abyss themselves. We even invite men to listen in as well, because tales of overcoming obstacles to earn a place at the table are universal, regardless of the shoes you're wearing.
And as we dare to take on this new challenge, we ask you - dear Listener - what is it that you are pondering? What dream are you thinking of chasing? Maybe you are debating the merits of turning your side hustle into a start-up. Perhaps you are mustering the courage to walk into the conference room and ask for a raise. Or, hell, maybe this is your year to run a marathon or finish a 5K. The answer, to all of them, depends on if you're ready to commit and not quit. Because anything is possible with a little hustle and grit.
I wear a bracelet around my wrist, everyday, with one word imprinted upon it: Audeamus. Translated from Latin, it simply means: "Let Us Dare." It's my daily reminder to jump. My girlfriends wear the same bracelet, because a Tribe of Hustlers is more powerful than one and strong women surround themselves with other badasses.
Come join our HIH Tribe and be a part of a movement of women who are daring to dream, to pursue, to live fully.....to jump.
